Hangs up gloves following loss
LightweightUFC
December 3, 2022
Holtzman lost to Clay Guida via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN 42 on Saturday in Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off back-to-back knockout defeats at the hands of high-end competition in Mateusz Gamrot and Beneil Dariush, Holtzman appeared to be in good position here to get back in the win column against an aging veteran in Guida. It didn't materialize. Holtzman's best round was the first, which isn't surprising considering that was the only round in which he was able to remain upright. Scott spent a significant portion of the final ten minutes being controlled by Guida on the mat, eliminating his chances of earning a decision. Holtzman is no spring chicken himself having just turned 39 years of age, which likely played into his decision of leaving his gloves in the Octagon following the fight, likely signaling the end of his professional career. If this indeed it, "Hot Sauce" finishes his UFC run with 7-6 record in 13 bouts.

Second straight KO loss
LightweightUFC
April 10, 2021
Holtzman lost to Mateusz Gamrot via KO (punches) at 1:22 of Round 2 at UFC on ABC 2 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The picture of inconsistency throughout his entire run with the company, this marked the second straight knockout defeat for "Hot Sauce." While Holtzman has never been able to put together any significant winning streak, the fact his chin is starting to betray him is a major, major concern. Hotlzman had never been stopped via strikes prior to his fight against Beneil Dariush last August. The Tennessee native is now 37 years of age and his future would appear to be exceedingly bleak if these sudden durability issues are a long-term concern. With the UFC cutting aging fighters left and right, Holtzman probably needs a win his next time out to save his job.

Winning streak snuffed out
LightweightUFC
August 9, 2020
Holtzman lost to Beneil Dariush via KO (spinning backfist) at 4:38 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN+ 32 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Holtzman had the cards stacked against him as a (+170) betting underdog going up against a heavy opponent, and he managed just nine significant strikes before getting slept in the opening round. Dariush was simply the superior fighter both in the clinch and at a distance, so it felt inevitable this stoppage was coming. Holtzman will take home 20 percent of Dariush's purse after his opponent missed weight, but that's just about the only positive takeaway here. While he's an exciting fighter, the ceiling here is limited at 36 years old.
