Mazo lost to Miranda Maverick via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:15 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Mazo was the second biggest underdog on the entire 14-fight card at +280 and it's easy to see why. She got nothing going in what was a rout from bell-to-bell. Mazo had no answers for the constant pressure and wrestling game of Maverick. She spent more than four minutes on the back, which eliminated any potential edge Mazo may have had on the feet as the much taller woman. Mazo is just 24 years of age, but she's lost three in a row dating back to September 2020. Those three victories came on the heels of a three-fight winning streak, and there's no guarantee she gets a fourth opportunity with the company.

Mazo will now face Miranda Maverick in flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night on March 12 rather than Mandy Bohm (undisclosed) as originally scheduled, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Bohm withdrew for undisclosed reasons, leading Maverick to step in as a replacement. Mazo is 3-3 in the UFC and has lost her past two fights, while Maverick is 2-2 and is also riding a two-bout losing streak.
Slated to fight in March
FlyweightOther
January 1, 2022
Mazo is slated to take on Mandy Bohm in a flyweight matchup at a UFC event scheduled for March 12, Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN Deportes reports.
ANALYSIS
Mazo carries a 3-3 record under the UFC banner but has lost each of her last two fights. She most recently lost to Mariya Agapova via submission (rear-naked choke) in early October. She'll face Bohm, who suffered her first professional loss in mid-September when she lost to Ariane Lipski via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. Mazo has an edge in height, but the two fighters are even in reach.
No-shows loss in Vegas

Mazo lost to Mariya Agapova via submission (rear-naked choke) at 0:53 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a dreadful effort from Mazo in a fight in which she entered as a -190 favorite. She seemed unable to get out of first gear the entire bout. Mazo is traditionally a stand-up fighter who offers little on the mat. If that is indeed the case, landing 38 percent of your significant strikes (62-159) isn't going to get the job done. Mazo has theoretical upside because she won't turn 25 years of age until late March, but she has shown more bad than good with the company. Her record is just .500 (3-3) and there's no real reason to believe any sort of breakthrough is forthcoming.
Fighting Oct. 9

July 12, 2021
Mazo will take on Mariya Agapova in a flyweight bout at the UFC event on Oct. 9, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mazo last fought back in February when she fell to Alexis Davis by unanimous decision. Mazo also ended up suffering a left leg injury. Prior to falling against Davis, Mazo had won her last three fights. Agapova is also coming off a loss last August as a big favorite and had to undergo surgery for a torn ACL last September.
Facing medical suspension
FlyweightOther
March 2, 2021
Mazo is facing a 180-day medical suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission pending X-rays on her left leg USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Mazo's hype train was derailed a bit this past Saturday when she took a convincing loss as a betting favorite, and it seems the bad news is piling on. She'll have to be sidelined for a minimum of 30 days, but could be out until the fall if unable to get orthopedic clearance. Fortunately, Mazo is just 23 years old, so the time off could end up as just a blip on the radar in what's expected to be a long MMA career.
