Taps out in Vegas
Agapova lost to Gillian Robertson via technical submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:19 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Agapova's struggles continue. This is a particularly disheartening result considering she fought well in Round 1. Yes, Robertson landed two of her six takedown attempts in the opening frame, good for 3:13 worth of control time, but it was Agapova who finished the round with a ridiculous 82-2 edge in total strikes landed. That is not a misprint. The tide turned in Round 2 when Agapova gave up a takedown and eventually her back. She eventually passed out from a rear-naked choke before submitting. Mariya has time on her side considering she won't turn 26 years of age until next April, but with three stoppage defeats in her past four fights dating back to August 2020, she may not get another opportunity with the UFC.

ANALYSIS
Agapova was ruled out of her last scheduled bout for July 30 for an undisclosed reason. She will now take on Robertson on short notice after Melissa Gatto was forced to withdraw. Agapova was last in the Octagon in March when she was submitted by Maryna Moroz.
