Drops highly-controversial decision
MacDonald fell to Gleason Tibau via split decision (28-29, 28-29, 29-28) at PFL 5 2021 on Thursday in Atlantic City.

MacDonald was visibly frustrated with this decision, and he very well had a case. Despite threatening with a first-round submission and landing the cleaner combinations, two of the three judges gave Tibau the first frame, and that was enough to tip the battle of former UFC combatants in Tibau's direction. Even with the loss, however, MacDonald remains in second place in the welterweight division with six points earned from his first-round submission of Curtis Millender in April, while Tibau has only these three points for the decision to his name. Stlll, MacDonald will likely need one more win in 2021 to lock in his playoff spot (and shot at the $1 million top prize).

2020 PFL season suspended
MacDonald will not get to compete in the PFL this season, as the league has suspended its operations for the remainder of 2020, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.

Strikes deal with PFL
MacDonald signed an exclusive multi-fight deal with the Professional Fighters League on Wednesday and will compete for the welterweight title and $1 million grand prize in 2020, Ariel Helwani of ESPN.com reports.

MacDonald (21-6-1) revealed after his loss to Douglas Lima (32-7-0) at Bellator 232 on Saturday that his contract with the promotion has expired, Nolan King and Matt Erickson of USA Today report.
