Parts ways with UFC
WelterweightPFL
August 13, 2018
Tibau has agreed to part ways with the UFC, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tibau's most recent loss to Desmond Green on Jun. 1 marked his fourth straight defeat, which brought about plenty of rumors regarding an eventual release. That release has now been officially confirmed, though Tibau is reportedly fielding offers from other promotions around the world and appears likely to continue fighting. The veteran lightweight will finish his UFC career with a 16-12 record, having competed for the promotion since 2006.

Release likely after fourth straight loss
WelterweightPFL
June 1, 2018
Tibau lost to Des Green via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-29) at UFC Fight Night on Friday in Utica, New York.
ANALYSIS
Now riding a four-fight losing streak and without a win under his belt in nearly three and a half years, this is quite likely the end of the line for the 34-year-old Brazilian. Tibau's offensive game has evaporated as he has aged. He provides a stationary target for his opposition to pummel and he doesn't move well enough to land with regularity on the other end. When you combine that with the fact Tibau recently served a two-year suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, the UFC has little reason to keep him around. Tibau made his company debut against Nick Diaz at UFC 65, way back in November 2006.
Locks in fight vs. Desmond Green
WelterweightPFL
April 16, 2018
Tibau will fight Desmond Green at UFC Utica on June 1, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tibau made his return to the Octagon in January following a two-year layoff, but was defeated by Ilam Makhachev by knockout in the first round, which extended his streak to three consecutive losses. He's slated to get back into the action in June and will face off with another fighter who's struggled of late, as Desmond Green is riding a two-fight losing streak of his own. Tibau owns 13 career submissions, while Green owns just one in his career, which suggests Tibau could gain the advantage by taking this fight to the ground.
Lasts 57 seconds in return from two-year suspension
WelterweightPFL
January 20, 2018
Tibau lost to Islam Makhachev via KO (punch) at 0:57 of Round 1 at UFC 220 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Coming of a two-year suspension due to a failed drug test, Tibau's first first in nearly 28 months lasted all of 57 seconds. At that point he was smashed by a violent shot from the surging Makhachev and was unable to recover. Now 34 years old, coming off the suspension and without an official win under his belt in more than three years, the UFC is likely to cut bait with Tibau. Their lightweight division isn't exactly hurting for quality fighters and it makes little sent to keep the washed up Brazilian around.
Will face Islam Makhachev at UFC 220
WelterweightPFL
November 2, 2017
Tibau (suspension) will face Islam Makhachev in a lightweight bout at UFC 220 in Boston on January 20, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tibau is finally set to return to the Octagon after serving a two-year suspension for testing positive for erythropoietin (EPO) back in Nov. 2015. He submitted Abel Trujillo in his last fight in 2015, but the win was overturned after he failed multiple drug tests. The Brazilian veteran owns an overall record of 41-11-0, with a 16-10 mark in the UFC. He'll look to shake the rust off against Makhachev, who holds a 3-1 record in the UFC and is coming off a victory over Nik Lentz via unanimous decision.
Will return to UFC after two-year suspension
WelterweightPFL
October 29, 2017
Tibau was suspended in 2015 after failing in and out of competition drug tests, but he'll be eligible to compete on Nov. 7, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tibau tested positive for eruthropoietin (EPO) back in Nov. 2015 and was suspended by the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) for two years as a result of the violation. Now two years have gone by and the fighter will be free to fight again come Nov. 7. Tibau was a very active fighter for the UFC before suspension, racking up a 16-10 record. In his return, he's looking to compete at 170 or 155, depending on the time frame in which he's given notice of a fight.
