Rodriguez lost to Ariane Carnelossi via DQ (illegal headbutt) at 3:16 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
A classic case of a fighter just handing away a victory. Rodriguez dominated this fight from start to finish, winning the striking exchanges between the two women and dominating on the mat. In top position midway through Round 2, Rodriguez brought her head down and connected with the head of Carnelossi. Referee Mark Smith immediately issued a warning, then Rodriguez did it again, this time with more authority. Carnelossi took a few minutes and eventually decided she couldn't continue and Smith disqualified Rodriguez, which for all the world appeared to be the correct decision. Instead of sporting a 3-1 record with the UFC, Rodriguez is now 2-2 and has lost back-to-back fights.

Rodriguez lost to Gillian Robertson via submission (armbar) at 4:21 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 44 on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez was the better fighter for about three minutes, which, not coincidentally, was the only portion of the fight in which she was able to remain upright. She foolishly jumped into Robertson's guard in Round 1 and paid for it. Piera was granted a reprieve at the start of Round 2 before an immediate Robertson takedown eventually led to Rodriguez tapping out to a deep armbar. Gillian is a really good grappler, but Rodriguez made some rookie mistakes on the mat and ended up paying for it. Piera began her UFC win with two straight unanimous decision wins, but both came against lesser competition (Sam Hughes, Kay Hansen). Already 30 years of age and with just 10 professional fights under her belt, Rodriguez's upside is quite limited.
