Earns vacant Bellator LW title
Pitbull defeated Peter Queally via TKO (punches) at 1:05 of Round 2 at Bellator 270 on Nov. 5, earning the vacant Bellator Lightweight Championship.
ANALYSIS
Former champion Patricio Freire vacated his lightweight belt earlier in 2021 in hopes of the promotion allowing his brother Patricky to get the title shot. That's exactly what happened, as Patricky was able to avenge an earlier loss to Queally at Bellator 258 when the doctor stopped the fight due to the cut. Patricky was the aggressor from the opening bell here, digging shots to the body throughout Round 1. After a brief stoppage due to an inadvertent eye poke, Patricky landed a clean right hand that send his opponent to the canvas, where he struggled to regain his footing. Pitbull recognized his hurt opponent and pounced, finishing the job. It's unclear what's next for Pitbull, who is now 35 years old with over a decade fighting for Bellator under his belt.

Avoids surgery
Freire suffered a right hand fracture with additional injuries to his left shoulder and right leg during the RIZN 20 tournament, but should avoid surgery, Guilherme Cruz of mmafighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A doctor's consultation revealed Pitbull would only need physical therapy and rest despite a confirmed broken hand, an injury he expects will keep him out until May. Freire entered the Grand Prix finale on a seven-fight win streak before dropping a unanimous decision loss to Tofiq Musayev.

Headed overseas for LW tourney
Freire will head to Japan with the permission of Bellator President Scott Coker to compete in the Rizin lightweight tournament that begins in late-2019, Nolan King of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The elder Pitbull brother last competed in Bellator in February, when he picked up a split-decision victory over Ryan Scope to extend his winning streak to five. While Freiere had likely been hoping for another shot at champion Michael Chandler, his brother beat him to the punch by defeating Chandler at Bellator 221, so Patricky will ultimately head to another promotion in search of a belt. These types of agreements are generally rare in MMA, but Coker opened the door at Bellator 222 when Kyoji Horiguchi came in from Rizin to face (and defeat) bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell. It seems like a win-win for both parties, as the brothers surely wouldn't fight one another, but Patricky will get a chance to compete for a belt anyway in what's turning into a cooperative, cross-promotional relationship.

Heads to enemy territory
Freire will face Ryan Scope at the lightweight main event of Bellator Newcastle on Feb. 9.
ANALYSIS
The Brazil native will be considered the favorite against Scope after winning six of his last seven fights. Scope should have the crowd on his side, however, being a native of England, but this will be his Bellator debut.

Finishes brawl with Roger Huerta in the second round at Bellator 205
Freire defeated Roger Huerta via TKO (punches) at 0:43 of Round 2 at Bellator 205 on Friday in Boise, Idaho.
ANALYSIS
This turned out to be quite the fight. "Pitbull" was a big favorite after Huerta took this fight on short notice. However, Huerta likely took the first round. Both fighters landed hard shots, and it looked like "Pitbull" was hurt at the end of the first round. The second round was another story. The Brazilian came forward with a three-punch combination. The first two missed, but the final left hook landed hard. Huerta was clearly hurt. He went for a desperation takedown, but Freire got back to his feet and unleashed another combination that finished the fight. "Pitbull" has now won four-straight fights in Bellator and will likely faced the winner of the upcoming Brent Primus vs. Michael Chandler title fight.
