Takes split decision in Denver
Salikhov defeated Santiago Ponzinibbio via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Denver.
ANALYSIS
In a fight between two aging veterans, both of whom needed a win in the worst way, Salikhov got the benefit of the doubt. The majority of this bout was spent on the feet, with both men doing their fair share of damage. Muslim ended up winning because two of the three judges gave him each of the first two rounds. The significant strikes after two ten minutes were 31-30 in Salikhov's favor, so it legitimately could have gone either way. Muslim turned 40 years of age this past June. He is just 2-3 in his past five fights despite this victory. It would appear highly unlikely he will be able to run off any sort of significant winning streak moving forward despite emerging victorious here.

New fight scheduled
Salikhov will fight Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Fight Night 243 in Denver, Colorado on July 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Salikhov's welterweight clash with Ponzibbio will be an opportunity for him to get back in the win column after suffering losses in his previous two UFC bouts. However, Salikhov will have to overcome a three-inch reach disadvantage.

Blitzed by Randy Brown
Salikhov lost to Randy Brown via TKO (punches) at 3:17 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Salikhov was doing pretty well here -- until he wasn't. Muslim spent the early portion of the bout firing off low kicks and keeping Brown off-balance. Then, he got clipped with an accidental eye poke, and seconds after the action restarted, Salikhov ate a one-two combination from Brown that finished him in an instant. Muslim hadn't been knocked out in any of his first 20 professional bouts, but he's now been stopped via strikes in two of his last four, and he has just one victory during that stretch. Set to turn 40 years of age this coming June, Salikhov has virtually no chance of competing with quality competition if his durability is gone.

Previous fight scheduled again
Salikhov will fight Randy Brown in a welterweight bout at UFC Vegas 85 on Feb. 3, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Salikhov and Brown were initially scheduled to fight at UFC 296 before their fight got canceled after the latter withdrew, citing physical illness. They are fighting again between and one and two months after their first scheduled bout suffered cancellation.

Not fighting at UFC 296
Salikhov will no longer be facing Randy Brown at UFC 296 on Saturday after Brown was forced to withdraw due to illness, Alex Behunin of MMA Mania reports.
ANALYSIS
Salikhov is 2-2 in his last four fights and was set to enter this matchup as roughly a (+205) betting underdog, but it wasn't meant to be. It's unclear if the UFC will reschedule these fighters at a later date in 2024.
