Crushing defeat in Manchester
StrawweightUFC
July 27, 2024
McCann lost to Bruna Brasil via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC 304 on Saturday in Manchester, England.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. Entering as a ridiculous -350 favorite in her home country, McCann was essentially dominated from bell-to-bell. She ate two massive blows to the liver in Round 1, which came awfully close to putting Molly away. She somehow survived the frame and managed to land two takedowns the rest of the way, but that was completely negated by the three Brasil landed. McCann is a big personality, but she's already 34 years of age and is 1-3 in her last four fights dating back to November 2022. She's nothing more than roster depth for a company that holds an event nearly every week.

Added to UFC 304 in Manchester
StrawweightUFC
May 14, 2024
McCann will take on Bruna Brasil in a strawweight matchup at UFC 304 on July 27, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The event is currently scheduled to be held in Manchester, England, so McCann should have a friendly crowd behind her. She recently defeated Diana Belbita via first-round submission in February, snapping a two-fight losing streak and earning a POTN bonus in the process. She now draws Brasil, a 1-2 fighter against whom McCann will own statistical advantages in both striking and wrestling volume.
Again bests Diana Belbita
StrawweightUFC
February 3, 2024
McCann defeated Diana Belbita via submission (armbar) at 4:59 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was a rematch of an October 2019 fight that McCann won via unanimous decision. She didn't need the entire 15 minutes here. Molly picked Belbita apart on the feet before scoring a couple takedowns and earning the submission win with exactly one second to go in Round 1. A better opponent almost certainly survives to see Round 2. We've seen time and time against that McCann, at age 33, is extremely limited. She has enough skill to beat lower-level fighters, but that's about where it ends. This victory snaps a brief two-fight losing streak and would go on to earn her one of two $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses awarded on the evening.
Scheduled against Belbita again
StrawweightUFC
December 6, 2023
McCann will compete against in a strawweight fight Diana Belbita at UFC Vegas 85 on Feb. 3, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
McCann and Belbita previously fought at flyweight. At UFC on ESPN 6 in October 2019, McCann defeated Belbita via unanimous decision. Much has changed in four years though, and the two will rematch again with ample experience and under a different weight class.
Moving down division
StrawweightUFC
July 24, 2023
McCann will move down to strawweight, per Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca.
ANALYSIS
Following back-to-back submission losses at flyweight, McCann will move down a division to strawweight and test her abilities there. Despite her ample UFC experience, none of it has been in the strawweight division. However, it is there where McCann can at least fight more women similar to her in terms of height and reach.
Second straight submission loss
StrawweightUFC
July 22, 2023
McCann lost to Julija Stoliarenko via submission (armbar) at 1:55 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
That should just about do it for the McCann experiment. Quickly submitting to Erin Blanchfield at Madison Square Garden last November is perfectly understandable since Blanchfield is really good, but immediately tapping to an opponent in Stoliarenko that entered with a 1-4 record in her first five UFC bouts is another matter entirely. Molly made a name for herself with a couple of stoppage wins over low-end competition, but that's about it. Now 6-5 in her first 11 fights with the company, McCann isn't going to see a co-main event slot again any time soon.
