Gets hometown fight in November
Malott will take on Trevin Giles in a welterweight matchup at UFC Edmonton on November 2, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Malott started his official UFC run with three consecutive stoppages within two rounds, including two POTN bonuses. That streak ended against perennial gatekeeper Neil Magny back in January, and since then, Malott had a scheduled April fight against Gilbert Urbina cancelled. His next walk to the cage will be in front of a friendly Canadian crowd, taking on an opponent in Giles who has been finished in back-to-back fights. Malott enters with a slight statistical edge in striking volume, as well as a significant edge in offensive wrestling. Both men measure up nearly identically from a physical standpoint.

No longer fighting Urbina
Malott is no longer fighting Gilbert Urbina on July 13, according to Aaron Bronsteter of Sportsnet.
ANALYSIS
An injury will prevent the Malott-Urbina fight from happening, though it is unclear who is going through said problem. Malott will have to avenge his January loss to Neil Magny some other time.

Heartbreak final second defeat

ANALYSIS
That sound you hear is the Malott hype train coming to a crashing halt. Magny is a highly respected veteran, and there's no shame in losing to him, but how Malott dropped this fight simply cannot happen. Clearly up two rounds and cruising to a no-doubt win, Mike found himself helpless on the mat in the waning seconds with his gas tank totally evaporated. Magny was on top of him firing off countless unanswered blows. Referee Kevin MacDonald gave Malott more than enough time to try and get things back on track, but it clearly wasn't happening. Everything that happened in the first 13 minutes-plus is irrelevant given how this fight ended. Viewed by many as Canada's best hope to become a future UFC champion, the 32-year-old Malott is going to have a very hard time overcoming this setback.
