Struggles continue in Vegas
Cosce lost to Trevin Giles via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In a fight in which neither man accomplished much, Cosce clearly accomplished less. He did nothing over the course of the first ten minutes, landing nine total strikes. He was a bit better in Round 3, connecting on a dozen shots and a takedown, good for 3:36 worth of control time, but Giles already easily banked the first two rounds, making this a foregone conclusion. Cosce earned his UFC opportunity with a 72-second knockout win on Dana White's Contender Series in August 2020 but has since gone on to lose each of his first two official fights with the company.

Tests positive for COVID-19
Cosce has tested positive for COVID-19 and will no longer take on Preston Parsons at UFC Vegas 52 on April 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.

What a disaster. Making his official UFC debut as a whopping -570 favorite, Cosce appeared to be in terrific position for a quick stoppage victory following a few big combinations early in the fight. Palatnikov somehow managed to survive, however, and Cosce's gas tank quickly betrayed him. He was running on fumes throughout the final two rounds and the end result was a crushing defeat that no fighter -- a newcomer or otherwise -- could afford. It's obviously only one bout, but this fight appeared to have exposed a fatal flaw in Cosce's armor. Sure, his power is legitimate, but any competitor who is unable to fight effectively for more than a couple minutes isn't any sort of legitimate contender. On the bright side, he'll still walk away with $50,000 after this matchup was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
