Suffers second straight loss
BantamweightUFC
June 22, 2024
Kang lost to Muin Gafurov via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
ANALYSIS
This fight wasn't as lopsided as the sweep on the scorecards would lead you to believe. Kang accomplished next to nothing on the feet, but did manage to land three takedown attempts. That's the good news. The bad news is that he was shockingly ineffective with his positional advantages, often doing nothing until Gafurov was able to figure things out. Already 36 years of age, Kang has now lost back-to-back fights. He likely needs a victory his next time out to avoid a release.

Headed to Saudi Arabia
BantamweightUFC
April 4, 2024
Kang will take on Muin Gafurov in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Saudi Arabia on June 22, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
It's been quite the UFC run for Kang, who had won five of six fights before falling to John Castaneda via unanimous decision in Kang's last trip to the Octagon in November. He'll now head into enemy territory to face Gafurov, but outside of Gafurov being a much younger fighter, it looks like a favorable matchup. Kang will enter with two-inch height and five-inch reach advantages, in addition to an edge in striking volume, striking defense and takedown defense.

Kang lost to John Castaneda via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 295 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
In what was a pick 'em fight, this was a thoroughly underwhelming performance from Kang on multiple fronts. He seemed hesitant to consistently let his hands go despite having a significant size advantage over Castaneda. Kang did land a couple big shots, but they were few and far between, and he was almost always one-and-done. Now 36 years of age, Kang didn't fight at all from September 2014 to January 2018 because of mandatory military service in his native South Korea. He's 6-3 in nine fights since returning, but just 2-2 in his past four dating back to November 2021.

ANALYSIS
Castaneda-Kang was scheduled to compete in a bantamweight fight at UFC 295. Instead, the two bantamweights will fight at catchweight with a 138-pound limit at UFC 295.
