Fernandes lost to Marc Diakiese via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Making his UFC debut as a +170 underdog, Fernandes didn't look as good as the "split decision" term would lead you to believe. He had all sorts of issues handling the grappling game of Diakiese, giving up three takedowns and 8:38 worth of control time. Ultimately, Fernandes simply didn't generate enough offense to earn the win. The 28-year-old Brazilian earned a ton of stoppages on the regional scene prior to his UFC arrival, but this was a poor start to his company run.
