Ismail Naurdiev

The Austrian Wonderboy

Austria

Wins first UFC bout since 2020
WelterweightUFC
October 26, 2024
Naurdiev defeated Bruno Silva via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 308 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Returning to the UFC for the first time since February 2020, Naurdiev was given a cake-walk matchup against a fading veteran in Silva and took full advantage. He remained aggressive on the feet, landing just enough blows to consistently get to his grappling game. That resulted in three successful takedowns for 5:51 worth of control time, but more importantly, eliminated Silva's chances of getting off any power shots of his own. Still just 28 years of age, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Ismail made legitimate improvements during his seven fights away from the company.

Naurdiev will fight Bruno Silva at UFC 308 on Oct. 26, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.

Naurdiev will look to avenge his February loss to Sean Brady via unanimous decision by defeating Silva in October. Naurdiev is 2-2 in his last four fights.
Struggles in Norfolk
WelterweightUFC
February 29, 2020
Naurdiev lost to Sean Brady via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Norfolk, Virginia.
ANALYSIS
It was yet another inconsistent performance from "The Austrian Wonderboy". Naurdiev looked halfway decent in Round 1 before the undefeated Brady began to pull away over the course of the final two frames. Naurdiev allowed Brady to land four successful takedowns and managed to tally just 38 total strikes over the course of the 15-minute bout. Naurdiev has now alternated wins and losses in his first four UFC bouts and all four fights have seen the final bell. There isn't much here despite the fact Naurdiev is just 23 years of age.

Naurdiev will face Sean Brady at UFC Norfolk on Feb. 29, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Both fighters made the UFC debuts in 2019. Naurdiev went 2-1 in his first season with the promotion, beating Michel Prazeres and Siyar Bahadurzada but losing to Chance Rencountre. Brady won his only UFC fight to date, beating Court McGee.
Delivers as big favorite
WelterweightUFC
September 29, 2019
Naurdiev defeated Siyar Bahadurzada via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-25) at UFC Copenhagen on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Naurdiev landed a total of 149 strikes on an overmatched Bahadurzada in this one, though only 69 of them were considered "significant" by the official scorer. Nonetheless, that volume -- mixed with three takedowns and three passes -- were enough for multiple judges to award Naurdiev 10-8 rounds. Credit to Bahadurzada for remaining standing for the entire 15 minutes, but Naurdiev was never truly in trouble in this one. It would have been nice to see a finish from the (-230) betting favorite, but at the very least, Naurdiev bounced back from a loss in July and improves to 2-1 under the UFC banner.

August 16, 2019
Naurdiev will take on Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC Copenhagen on Sept. 28, Farah Hannoun of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Naurdiev was considered a heavy favorite in his bout versus Chance Rencountre but ultimately fell via unanimous decision. He owns a one-inch reach advantage and often successfully avoids contact, which should work in his favor. Naurdiev's 76 percent takedown defense rate will likely be put to the test, however, as Bahadruzda averages 1.58 takedowns per 15 minutes.
