Not competitive as massive underdog
BantamweightUFC
March 11, 2023
Cannetti lost to Mario Bautista via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:18 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Now 43 years old, Cannetti never had a chance against a quality young opponent in Bautista. He entered as a +650 underdog, largest on the entire card by a mile, and barely lasted three minutes. Guido never was able to get his offensive game on track because he gave up three takedowns in the brief bout and spent nearly the entire fight being controlled by his opponent. The Argentinean actually won both of his fights in 2022 (Randy Costa, Kris Moutinho), so Cannetti's job should be secure assuming he plans on continuing to fight at his advanced age.

Set for March bout
BantamweightUFC
December 15, 2022
Cannetti is slated to fight Mario Bautista in a bantamweight bout at the UFC Vegas 71 event March 11, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Cannetti is now set for the 10th fight of his UFC career dating back to 2014. The 42-year-old Argentinian is 4-6 overall in the UFC, but he is coming off back-to-back stoppage victories over Kris Moutinho (standing TKO) and Randy Costa (rear naked choke). The soon-to-be 43-year-old will take on an opponent in Bautista who is coming off three straight UFC victories. The 29-year-old also stands three inches taller and has a marginal one-inch reach advantage. Cannetti will also look to improve his UFC record to 3-3 since 2018.
Second straight stoppage win
BantamweightUFC
October 1, 2022
Cannetti defeated Randy Costa via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:04 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Who could have seen this result coming? Yes, Cannetti was fresh off a first-round knockout win over Kris Moutinho this past March, but he had lost his prior three fights and will be turning 43 years of age this coming December. Clearly the Vegas odds makers thought it was a long shot given Guido entered as a hefty +235 underdog. Cannetti's last two victories are almost certainly as outlier as opposed to a sign of things to come, but his roster spot is most definitely secure following another strong performance.
Taking on Costa next
BantamweightUFC
June 17, 2022
Cannetti will face Randy Costa in a bantamweight fight at a UFC event on October 1, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Cannetti is 3-6 in his UFC career, entering his bout with Costa having been victorious in his previous fight. The 5-foot-6 fighter stands three inches shorter than Costa, while also facing a five-inch reach disadvantage. Cannetti will need to fight his way inside Costa's long reach. The fighter averaged 1.98 takedown attempts per 15 minutes, landing 50% of his attempts. Costa has a 100% takedown defense in his career, keeping his fights on his feet.
Snaps long losing streak
BantamweightUFC
March 12, 2022
Cannetti defeated Kris Moutinho via TKO (punches) at 2:07 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Many were wondering why the UFC gave Cannetti another opportunity despite the fact he entered having lost three in a row and without a victory dating back to May 2018. To his credit, the 42-year-old Argentinean took advantage of a lesser opponent in proceeding to pick up his first knockout victory since September 2012. There's an extremely likelihood that Cannetti will struggle his next time out against a bit better competition, but this victory saved Guido's job and should ensure we see him compete under the UFC banner once again in the not too distant future. He barely broke a sweat here.
Facing Kris Moutinho in March
BantamweightUFC
December 2, 2021
Cannetti (shoulder/knee) will take on Kris Moutinho on March 12, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
The 41-year-old has suffered three straight defeats and picked up a six-month medical suspension due to shoulder and knee injuries after taking a beating in his split-decision loss to Leomana Martinez in August. Those six months will have elapsed by March, at which point he'll take on Moutinho, a fighter nearly 13 years his junior. Moutinho has fought just once under the UFC banner, losing via third-round TKO against Sean O'Malley in his promotional debut in July.
