Can't find range in loss to Gian Villante at UFC 220
Light HeavyweightUFC
January 20, 2018
Barroso lost to Gian Villante via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC 220 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
The judge who scored the fight for Barroso obviously fell asleep during the contest. It's understandable considering how it went. It's impossible to fight without displaying any footwork whatsoever, but Barroso tries his best every time out. He did a halfway decent job of getting his head off the center line but the entirety of his offense consisted of leg kicks. There wasn't a single second in which you thought he had Villante in any sort of trouble. The 37-year-old is 1-3 (1NC) in his last five fights. He will probably get one more chance with the company, but he deserves to be released.

Set for bout against Gian Villante
Light HeavyweightUFC
November 15, 2017
Barroso will face Gian Villante at UFC 220 on January 20 in Boston, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Barroso returns to the arena following a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Aleksander Rakic at UFC Fight Night 115 in early September, which followed his victory over Darren Stewart in March. On the other side of the light heavyweight clash is VIllante, who brings in a 15-9 career record, but suffered losses during both of his fights this calendar year. He was beaten by Shogun Rua and Patrick Cummings during both of his bouts in 2017, and will be looking to get back on track in Boston.
Struggles on the feet against Aleksandar Rakic at UFC Rotterdam
Light HeavyweightUFC
September 2, 2017
Barroso was defeated by Aleksandar Rakic via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night 115 on Saturday in Rotterdam.
ANALYSIS
Barroso was fighting an up hill battle the entire time. He had no ability to close the distance or land strikes. He tried to take the fight to the ground, but Rakic defended well and got back to his feet. Barroso has defeated some quality fighters in the UFC, but he appeared to be out of his element in this fight. He falls to 19-6 as a professional and 4-3 in the UFC.
To face Aleksandar Rakic at UFC Rotterdam
Light HeavyweightUFC
June 29, 2017
Barroso will face Aleksandar Rakic in a light heavyweight fight at UFC Fight Night 115 on September 2 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
ANALYSIS
Barroso is taking on the UFC newcomer after a revenge victory over Darren Stewart. While the Brazilian has 12 years on Rakic, Barroso has more experience with UFC-caliber opponents and is 4-2, 1 NC with the promotion (19-5, 1 NC overall). "Bodao" has racked up eight KO/TKOs and six submission wins over his career and has an 83 percent takedown defense, suggesting he is a formidable opponent for Rakic.
Scores lackluster decision victory over Darren Stewart
Light HeavyweightUFC
March 18, 2017
Barroso defeated Darren Stewart via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
After struggling in their first fight, Barroso came out with a much more measured approach here. Stewart had a strong first round but then faded quickly. In the second round, Barroso was able to control the clinch and land several takedowns. This totally zapped the gas tank of Stewart. From there, Barroso was able to land a few strikes to take the second and third rounds. It was not an overly impressive performance, but he was able to win after coming in as the underdog. Barroso has gone 4-2 since joining the UFC in 2013.
Hit with accidental headbutt, finished by Darren Stewart
Light HeavyweightUFC
November 19, 2016
Barroso lost to Darren Stewart via TKO (punches) at 1:34 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Barroso's performance was certainly nothing to write home about, but another dreadful effort from referee Eduardo Herdy may have cost him this fight. A seemingly accidental headbutt from Stewart connected to Barroso's jaw during an exchange along the fence, and Herdy, who is seemingly always in the wrong position, failed to realize it and it helped lead to the sequence that ended the fight. Herdy has shown his incompetence over and over, but for some reason he is still allowed to referee fights whenever the UFC is in Brazil. Barroso has now lost two-straight following a brief two-fight winning streak.
