Out of UFC after arrest
HeavyweightOther
February 18, 2021
Sosnovskiy is no longer with the UFC after allegedly being arrested in Russia on charges of abduction and extortion in late-2019, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Unlike the other seven fighters that were recently confirmed to be released, Sosnovskiy seemingly had a bright future with the promotion. The 31-year-old heavyweight is 11-0 as a professional and won his UFC debut against Mark Godbeer back in March of 2018. He was scheduled for a matchup against Junior Albini in early-2019, but was ultimately pulled from the card due to reasons that were never disclosed. Whether or not they relate to the charges he's facing remains to be seen, but it's safe to assume for now that any return to MMA won't be under the UFC banner.

Replaced on upcoming card

Draws Junior Albini in Brazil
HeavyweightOther
December 2, 2018
Sosnovskiy will take on Junior Albini in a heavyweight matchup at UFC Fortaleza on Feb. 2, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sosnovskiy started his career with a second-round submission of Mark Godbeer, and the 29-year-old Russian will continue looking to stack up wins in this preliminary bout. He gets a manageable opponent in Albini, who is riding a two-fight losing streak and has shown suspect submission defense in his short time with the company.
Victorious in Octagon debut
HeavyweightOther
March 17, 2018
Sosnovskiy defeated Mark Godbeer via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:29 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
This was a very close fight until the finish. Sosnovskiy made his Octagon debut and had only been out of the first round in two of his ten professional fights. He was able to get an early takedown against the fence, but had difficulty getting past Godbeer's guard. The referee eventually stood the fighters up and both fighters landed in a striking exchange. The second round was very similar as the Russian got the early takedown, Godbeer reversed, and the referee stood the fighters up. Once the fight started again it seemed that Sosnovskiy landed a punch that hurt Godbeer. The Englishman was wobbly and got taken to the ground by Sosnovskiy. Sosnovskiy rained down punches from the mount, took Godbeer's back, and sunk in the rear-naked choke. It was a good debut, but Sosnovskiy's conditioning will be an issue against fighters who keep a higher pace than Godbeer.
Debut moved to UFC London
HeavyweightOther
February 7, 2018
Sosnovskiy will now make his promotional debut in a heavyweight matchup against Mark Godbeer at UFC London on March 17 at the O2 Arena, ESPN UK reports.
ANALYSIS
Sosnovskiy had originally been scheduled for a matchup against Justin Ledet at UFC Pittsburgh in September, but was forced to withdraw due to an undisclosed injury. He's debut will be rescheduled for a date almost exactly six months later, so he should have received ample recovery time. Sosnovskiy is undefeated as a professional, but the 28-year-old Russian has been bouncing around lesser promotions -- most recently Octagon Fighting Sensation. Given that Godbeer has tangible experience against UFC-caliber heavyweights, looks for Sosnovskiy to enter as a betting underdog. Though heavyweight matchups are typically attractive from a fantasy standpoint due to high stoppage rates, there's enough uncertainty here to potentially keep ownership percentages low.
Pulled from UFC Pittsburgh
HeavyweightOther
September 12, 2017
Sosnovskiy (undisclosed) has withdrawn from his heavyweight fight against Justin Ledet at UFC Fight Night 116 on September 16 in Pittsburgh, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sosovskiy suffered an undisclosed injury and was forced to withdraw from his scheduled matchup with Ledet. He has been replaced by newcomer Azunna Anyanwu, who took the fight on short notice this Monday. A timetable for Sosnovskiy's return is not known at this time.
