Gets right back in win column
BantamweightUFC
August 10, 2024
Gutierrez defeated Quang Le via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Originally scheduled to face Javid Basharat this evening, Gutierrez accepted this opponent change just a few days ago. He got the job done, but was far from impressive as a -600 favorite. Chris is very good at damaging his opponent with leg kicks, and he did that again here. He connected on 32 of them, leaving Le hobbled in the process. While that's all well and good, Gutierrez falls in love with that form of attack too much at times and doesn't let his hands go in the process. It didn't cost him here, but it has in the past against better competition. Already 33 years of age, Gutierrez has alternated wins and losses in his past five bouts dating back to November 2022.

Looks to bounce back vs. Basharat
BantamweightUFC
June 18, 2024
Gutierrez will take on Javid Basharat in a bantamweight showdown at UFC Abu Dhabi on August 3rd, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Gutierrez is coming off a rather uncompetitive bout with Yadong Song in which he lost via unanimous decision. He'll look to bounce back from that performance and push his UFC win total to nine. It'll be Gutierrez' first fight since December, while his opponent Basharat is less experienced in the UFC but last fought in March.
Not competitive in main event

Gutierrez lost to Yadong Song via unanimous decision (44-50, 45-50, 45-50) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This looked like a difficult matchup for Gutierrez on paper and played out that way inside the Octagon. Chris is known as a volume puncher with good footwork, but Song entered with a significant power edge, making it difficult for Gutierrez to make any headway on the feet. Chris appeared openly frustrated at times between rounds, particularly late. He remained upright throughout Round 1, but found himself planted on his back each of the next four frames. He defended fine on the mat, and Song didn't exactly dominate from top position, but it helped drain the clock. Simply put, there wasn't enough urgency from Chris in a fight he was clearly losing on the scorecards. Gutierrez is 8-2-1 in his past 11 fights, so he's been terrific, but at 32 years of age, he has no notable wins over high-end competition, and he didn't show well in his attempt to pick one up on this night.
