Still searching for first UFC win
Ontiveros lost to Gabriel Benitez via TKO (punches) at 3:35 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 41 on Saturday in San Diego.
ANALYSIS
Almost certainly in need of a victory to extend his time with the company, Ontiveros was able to hang tough for a couple minutes before it all fell apart. His success came when he was able to use his massive length advantage to pepper Benitez on the feet. Ontiveros eventually found himself trapped along the fence, at which point Benitez slammed him to the mat and eventually earned the stoppage. Ontiveros has now lost each of his first three UFC bouts, all via knockout. The odds are strongly against him earning a fourth opportunity.

Set to face Benitez in August
Ontiveros (forearm) will fight Gabriel Benitez at UFC San Diego on Aug. 13, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Ontiveros was issued a six-month medical suspension after injuring his forearm when he was defeated by Steve Garcia last October, but it appears he's been cleared to return to the Octagon. Ontiveros will look to earn his first UFC victory against Benitez, who is 1-4 over his last five appearances. The winner of the bout will likely earn the right to remain with the UFC, while the loser figures to have a tough time holding on to their spot on the roster.

Still searching for first UFC win
Ontiveros lost to Steve Garcia via TKO (punches) at 1:51 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Ontiveros lasted about four more minutes in this fight than in his UFC debut against Kevin Holland last October, so in that sense, he is improving. Of course, it's far from a guarantee he gets a third opportunity after this setback. The early returns on Ontiveros have been troubling to say the least. He landed just 15 total strikes here compared to 70 from Garcia. Ontiveros also allowed his opponent to connect on three of his five takedown attempts. Both are a recipe for disaster and that's exactly how it has played out for the 30-year-old Texan during his brief time with the company. There is little to be excited about here.

Scheduled for Oct. 9 bout
Ontiveros will take on Steve Garcia on the Oct. 9 UFC card, Sergio Pineiro of FighterPath reports.
ANALYSIS
Ontiveros took his last fight on short notice and ultimately submitted to Kevin Holland in the first round of last October's clash. He will wait almost a year before getting his next chance in the Octagon, which arrives against a fighter in Garcia who owns a 1-1-0 record in the UFC after falling to Luis Pena via unanimous decision in February.
