Blasted for second straight time
Cruz lost to Uros Medic via TKO (punches) at 1:40 of Round 1 at UFC 259 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a disastrous outing for Cruz that was made all the more worse by the incompetence of referee Mark Smith. Clearly outclassed by the more powerful Medic, Cruz was forced to eat countless additional dangerous strikes because Smith refused to stop the fight for some reason. There has been some horrendous officiating in the sport of late, and Cruz was the latest victim. We've seen Cruz inside the Octagon just twice since earning a contract on Dana White's Contender Series, but he has now been knocked out in each fight in 100 seconds or fewer. His complete lack of competitiveness means there is no guarantee the 31-year-old Florida native gets a third short with the company.

Preparing for March bout
Cruz will fight Uros Medic in a lightweight bout at UFC 259 on March 6, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Cruz last fought in February 2020, losing via TKO (punches) to Spike Carlyle despite entering the Octagon as the clear favorite. He's now scheduled for his second UFC fight against newcomer Uros Medic, who earned his UFC contract through Dana White's Contender Series back in August.

Lands 30-day medical suspension
Cruz has been handed a 30-day medical suspension by the UFC following his first-round TKO loss at Fight Night in Norfolk, Steven Marrocco of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cruz's debut bout did not go as planned, as he entered as a -200 favorite. However, the fight was over just short of the 90-second mark. It is not clear what specific injury he sustained, but he will have to wait at least a month before returning to the octagon.

Lasts 85 seconds in UFC debut
Cruz lost to Spike Carlyle via TKO (punches) at 1:25 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Norfolk, Virginia.
ANALYSIS
Originally scheduled to face Steven Peterson, it's safe to say the debuting Cruz didn't handle his opponent change well. He entered as a substantial -200 favorite and couldn't even manage to last 90 seconds on his maiden voyage with the UFC. One of Carlyle's elbows that led to the finish appeared to land to the back of Cruz's head, so perhaps an appeal is on the way from Cruz's camp. A product of Dana White's Contender Series, Cruz had never been knocked out in his pro career prior to Saturday. He should get another shot with the company, especially considering the opponent change, but fands shouldn't expect much.

Will stay on Norfolk card
Cruz will now take on Spike Carlyle in a featherweight matchup at UFC Norfolk on Feb. 29, Nolan King of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cruz was originally scheduled to face Steven Peterson in his UFC debut, but Peterson withdrew due to unspecified reasons just under three weeks before the fight. In steps Carlyle, who is riding a four-fight winning streak with an 8-1 pro record overall. Cruz sits at approximately a (-175) betting favorite as of Monday evening.
