This player will have no fantasy value in 2013-14 and can be ignored in all formats.
Shirokov was dubbed a “sleeper” last season after catching fire in the preseason last year, but he was never able to catch on with the Canucks. Still, the 24-year-old Russian was able to showoff his skills with Manitoba of the AHL, finishing with 45 points (22 G, 23 A) in 76 games. He’ll get another long look in training camp, but Shirokov will likely spend time bouncing between the AHL and NHL this season.
Shirokov passed up more money from HC CSKA Moscow of the KHL to play for the Canucks this season. The 23-year-old winger tallied 17 goals and 24 assists for his Russian squad last season. He possesses plus stick handling abilities and is a shifty skater. With the Canucks banged up a bit on their front line, Shirokov has a chance to earn an opening night roster spot.
