DNew York Islanders  Free Agent
February 17, 2014
Martinek has appeared in just three games for the Islanders since being activated from injured reserve Jan. 16.
ANALYSIS
He's managed to finish with a plus-5 rating over those three contests, but the returns of Travis Hamonic and Lubomir Visnovsky from IR eventually pushed him to the press box. Martinek isn't expected to fall into regular ice time anytime soon.

This player will have no fantasy value in 2013-14 and can be ignored in all formats.
Martinek,a veteran stay-at-home defenseman, played just seven games last year due to a severe concussion. He doesn't seem inclined to retire just yet and he could catch on somewhere with a club looking for depth. His career-high is 17 points, which he's achieved twice with the Islanders six years earlier.
Defensive defenseman has little fantasy value, but he'll take his steady (if injury-prone) presence to the Columbus blue line.
Martinek is extremely valuable to the Islanders as a solid defenseman, but has almost zero value to your fantasy team. He has never been much of a goal scorer or setup man, and doesn't spend anywhere near enough time in the sin bin to help you out there.
Injuries again plagued Martinek in 2008-09 and limited him to 51 games. The defenseman scored a career-high six goals but added just four assists. He's reliable in his own end, but he is injury prone and limited offensively (has never scored more than 17 points in a season). He is not one to be on the lookout for on draft day.
Not known for his offense, Martinek is one of the team's most reliable defensemen in their own zone when healthy (he has played 70 or more games just once in his career). Usually paired with Brendan Witt, the duo frequently lines up against the opposition's top line.
Significant injuries have hampered Martinek in two of the last three NHL seasons. When he is healthy enough to be on the ice, he's a steady defenseman who's reliable in his own end and capable of chipping some points occasionally.
Martinek scored 17 points in 74 games with the Isles last season. With the additions of Hill and Poti, a dramatic increase in points is not likely.
Martinek is a solid defenseman overall, but he doesn't provide much in terms of offense. Don't expect more than 15 to 20 points, and that's if he stays healthy for a full season.
