Playing in his first full NHL campaign in 2013-14, Guenin recorded nine points (one goal, eight assists) while skating to a plus-3 and finishing third on the Avs in blocked shots with 128. The 31-year-old minor league journeyman finally found a permanent home last year in Denver after spending six seasons bouncing around on four different organizations while playing in a combined 32 NHL games during that span. Guenin's definitely paid his dues and his usefulness in the penalty-killing department helped make him a regular with the Avs, as he finished second on the time in short-handed ice time with 2:48 per game behind fellow d-man Jan Hejda. His PK value to the Avs doesn't translate to fantasy, however, so Guenin shouldn't garner much attention unless he experiences a sudden renaissance in his play and/or the Avs blueline gets decimated by injuries.
Physical depth defenseman scored 2-11-13 with 35 PIMs in 27 AHL games last season.
Guenin has a chance of cracking the Pens' roster as a seventh defenseman. The 26-year-old blueliner has put up nice penalty minutes in the AHL -- he totaled 146 with the Phantoms in 2006-07 -- but hasn't scored more than 17 points in any one professional season. Pittsburgh currently has a dearth of NHL-ready quality defensemen, giving Guenin a 15-minute shot of fame to open the season. Either way, however, he doesn't figure in the organization's long-term plans.
The Flyers sent Nate Guenin to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL. Guenin might return at some point, but he is not a recommended Fantasy option in any format.
Guenin should be in the AHL in his first pro season in 2006-07.
