Comrie retired from the NHL on Monday after a third hip operation in five years, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Comrie is only 31, but his body simply broke down too many times and he's no longer able to perform up to his skill level. He'll certainly be able to use some frequent-flyer miles in his retirement, as he played for six NHL teams over a career that saw him score 168 goals, including two 30-plus seasons.

Comrie will look to jumpstart his hockey career with Pittsburgh after jumpstarting his personal life with Hillary Duff. Comrie has fallen off the fantasy map the last couple years, but there's reason to expect him to produce as a second-tier offensive weapon with the Pens. Pittsburgh has little in the way of skilled wingers. If Comrie can establish himself during camp as a viable threat, he could finish in the 50-point range. Even more intriguing, Comrie has the opportunity to earn time on the man advantage. Over one-third of Comrie's career points (359) have come courtesy of the power play (130).
I guess you can come home again as Comrie returns to the team he left in 2003 in a salary dispute. Comrie has had his best seasons in Edmonton but with Shawn Horcoff and Sam Gagner locked in as the Oilers' top centers, Comrie may have to switch to wing in order to have a spot in the top six forwards.
Comrie is best suited to be a second-line center, but the lack of talent on the Island may once again force him onto the first line. He played most of the second half of 2007-08 with a hip injury, but still finished with a team-high 49 points. Unfortunately, he also had a team-worst minus-21 rating. Another factor to take into consideration is his announcement that he underwent hip surgery in May. While Comrie is the best the Isles have to offer offensively, he’s not one to target until the middle portion of drafts at the earliest.
Comrie steps into a nice situation on Long Island. The Isles lost a few of their top scorers in the off-season, so Comrie automatically inherits the first-line center job. As well, he signed a one-year deal with the club, so he’ll be looking for a bigger contract come season’s end and that means he’ll definitely be pushing himself to rack up the points. He should tally 60 points for the third time in his career.
Comrie is looking to reach 30 goals and surpass 60 points this season and could very well do so on a very deep Coyotes team. Fantasy owners know what they get when drafting this guy and this year should be no different.
The promise of Comrie's career should blossom in 2005-06, his fifth season. His 2003-04 campaign was disappointing with Philadelphia, and he was moved to Phoenix in a trade involving Sean Burke. Comrie had a lot of promise with Edmonton and it could finally come together for the Coyotes this season. In 28 games with Phoenix after the trade, he notched eight goals and seven assists. He should return to his 2001-02 productivity, where he accumulated 33 goals and 27 assists with the Oilers.
