Greene will join the Los Angeles organization as a member of the scouting department -- ending his 12-year professional career, LA Kings Insider Jon Rosen reports.
ANALYSIS
After three years with Edmonton, Greene spent nine seasons with the Kings -- racking up a total of 615 NHL games in which he registered 17 goals and 63 assists. During the 2016-17 campaign, the 34-year-old saw action in just 26 outings -- in part due to injuries -- so it should come as little surprise he is ready to enter the next phase of his career in hockey.

Greene was limited to just 38 games due to injury and he's never been a factor in the offensive end. But that didn't stop the Kings from inking him to a four-year, $10 million contract extension in the offseason. He'll look to give the Kings some defensive-minded minutes on the back-end again this season.
Greene was limited to just five games last season due to a herniated disc, but that didn't impact too many fantasy squads. He's your typical stay-at-home defenseman and hasn't put more than 15 points in any of his eight NHL seasons. He'll be back in a shutdown role with the Kings again this season.
Greene set a career high with 15 points last year, but his main contribition to the Kings comes when he's killing penalties. He'll be back in a third-pair role for the Kings again this season.
Greene's a stay-at-home defenseman who leaves the offensive end of things to the more talented Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson. He hasn't topped more than 15 points in his three years with the Kings and this year doesn't figure to be any different.
Greene battled a shoulder injury for much of last season and finally had surgery in late July to fix a host of problems with it. He's expected to miss three to four months, which likely impacts his availability at the start of the season. He doesn't offer anything offensively but has a history of racking up the time in the penalty box (399 PIMs in 308 career NHL games), assuming you're trolling for that kind of thing from the blue line. He'll be in the lineup on most nights once healthy, to give the Kings a veteran defensive presence.
His biggest fantasy contribution to the Kings will be helping to shore up the team's blueline and allow some of the team's offensively-gifted blueliners to take more chances in the zone. His 14 points last season were a career high as were his 111 PIMs.
Greene will give the Kings a steady presence on the blueline after coming over from the Oilers but doesn't offer any fantasy upside.
Greene is a defensive, stay-at-home defenseman. While he contributes to the Oilers on the ice, he won't do much for your fantasy squad.
Greene has earned a permanent spot on the Edmonton roster. He is an aggressive, physical defenseman with decent speed, but his offensive potential is minimal.
Greene is a solid prospect for the Oilers on the blueline. He does not provide much on the stat sheet, but his physical, intense play will be an asset as he is careful and not reckless with his aggressiveness.
