Kivlenieks made his NHL debut in 2019-20, posting a 1-1-2 record, a 2.95 GAA and an .898 save percentage in six outings. He also added a 2.96 GAA and a .904 save percentage in 20 appearances with AHL Cleveland. He's the Blue Jackets' No. 3 goalie, so he'll likely spend the bulk of 2020-21 on the taxi squad. Fantasy managers outside of the deepest formats won't need tp consider Kivlenieks' services, but he'll be an insurance policy for those who roster either Joonas Korpisalo or Elvis Merzlikins.

Kivlenieks made his pro debut last season with AHL Cleveland, and while the 21-year-old struggled at times, posting a 3.21 GAA and .891 save percentage in 43 games, he also showed flashes of NHL upside, although he never got a chance to show it in the NHL despite a number of brief call-ups. A lanky 6-foot-2, Kivlenieks still has a long way to go in his development, but with both Sergei Bobrovsky and Joonas Korpisalo in the final years of their current contracts, a path to a regular spot in the Blue Jackets' net could open up for Kivlenieks if he takes a big step forward in 2018-19.
