DEdmonton Oilers  Free Agent
October 3, 2016
Fraser was placed on waivers by the Oilers on Monday, Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Fraser spent the entire 2015-16 campaign in the minors and looks to be on the same trajectory for the upcoming season. Selected in the third round of the 2005 NHL Draft by New Jersey, the blueliner notched just seven points last year, but added 136 PIM, nearly doubling his career total. Even if he gets the occasional call-up, the 30-year-old will likely go unnoticed by most fantasy owners.

Fraser had a breakout year in 2012-13 and ended up in a contract fight with the Leafs this past summer. His game is simple -- clear the crease, hit guys and protect the kitchen. It doesn’t add up to much in fantasy (except plus-minus), but it's a great support to the Leafs' goalies.
Fraser and Korbinian Holzer formed one of the best shut-down defense pairs in the AHL last season. Fraser is the more physical of the two players, but his path to the NHL is cloudy. He'll toil in the A again this season. Fraser never produced much during his three seasons with New Jersey, posting eight points in 81 total games.
Fraser was limited to just 26 games last season, as he battled injuries and was commonly a healthy scratch. He finished the season with two points and 44 penalty minutes and is a defensive defenseman in the truest sense of the word.
Since his scores are few and (way) far between, Fraser isn't the type of defenseman that fantasy owners covet. However, last season, he made his way into 61 NHL games as a rookie. Fraser should continue to be a steady depth defenseman in 2010-11.
Fraser didn't see NHL ice in 2007-08 after playing seven games for the Devils the previous season. A defensive player, Fraser won't warrant consideration if he's called up to the big club.
