Wallmark didn't receive a qualifying offer from Florida, which means he'll become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday, CapFriendly reports.
ANALYSIS
Wallmark signed a one-year deal with CSKA Moska of the KHL for the 2021-22 campaign, so this move was expected. The 25-year-old forward may end up spending the rest of his playing career overseas.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2020
2019
2018
Wallmark hit the 25-point threshold for the second straight year in 2019-20, amassing 12 goals and 13 helpers in 67 games split between the Hurricanes and the Panthers. He latched on with the Blackhawks on a one-year contract this offseason. Now he's in a position for a top-six role since Jonathan Toews (illness) and Kirby Dach (wrist) are both expected to be out for most, if not all of the regular season. Wallmark could see a slight increase in scoring pace, but 25 points is likely his ceiling for the truncated 2020-21 campaign. The Swede will also provide decent hit totals, but his fantasy viability will remain limited to deeper leagues.
Wallmark's coming off his first full NHL season, which saw him tally 10 goals and 28 points in 81 games with the Hurricanes. The Swedish center shouldn't have a problem making the roster again in camp, but it will be in a bottom-six capacity. Given his nondescript production across the board and limited role, there isn't much to get excited about when it comes to Wallmark's fantasy prospects.
Wallmark led the AHL's Charlotte Checkers last season with 55 points in 45 games – earning team MVP honors – and he was second the previous year with 46 points. For his efforts, Wallmark was rewarded with a new, two-year contract in July – a two-way deal for the upcoming 2018-19 season, and a one-year deal in 2019-20, an indication that the Canes feel he will be a regular NHL contributor by then. A fourth-round pick by the Hurricanes in 2014, the 22-year-old Swede has decent long-term sleeper potential.
