Schultz re-upped with the Kings on a two-year, $1.7 million contract, but it's hard to imagine him playing regular minutes for the Kings. He's a decent enough insurance policy to have around as the seventh defensemen, but he'llneed to get used to the view from the press box.
Schultz joins the Kings after getting bought out by the Capitals and will give the team another defensive presence on the blue line. He hasn't been a fantasy factor since riding shotgun with Mike Green in Washington and isn't likely to regain it in Los Angeles. He may even have to fight for ice time with Jake Muzzin and Alec Martinez.
Schultz is a huge part of the team's backend and stands at a massive 6-foot-6. Known mainly for his tough play he has really started to come into his own after a few seasons. After his best season two years ago, Schultz tallied 10 points and blocked 138 shots. Along with all of the offensive talent on the blueline, Schultz is more of a lockdown defender.

Obviously, he led all defensemen in that statistic and did get some time on the power play. This rugged young defender is fitting right in with the Caps and owners may want to take a look at him in deeper leagues as a plus/minus anchor.
Schultz, the 23 year old, 6’6” blue liner, had a decent third year in the league. The Caps’ first round pick in 2002 has high expectations and finished last year with 12 points (1G, 11A), a small step back from his 2007-08 campaign. He did play in eight less games last season (64 compared to 72 in 07-08), but the team needs him to step up and start making more plays. He is not fantasy worthy just yet, but keep an eye on this kid.
Schultz, the 22 year old, 6’6” blue liner, came into his own in his second pro season. The Caps’ first round pick in 2002 has high expectations and finished last year with 18 points, 5 of them goals on only 36 shots on goal. He played in 72 games, logging just over 18 minutes of ice time per game. He is not fantasy worthy just yet, but keep an eye on this kid.
The 6-foot-6 Schultz was impressive in his regular-season professional debut in 2006-07, putting up 12 points in 44 AHL games before being promoted to the NHL and managing three points and a solid plus-3 rating in 38 games. He won't be much of a scorer in the NHL, but has a shot to stick out of training camp in 2007-08.
The 2004 first-round pick has proven all that he has to prove at the Junior level, culminating with 40 points in 68 games last season for WHL Calgary. Schultz joined AHL Portland for their playoff run, scoring four points in seven games, and the 6-foot-6, 212-lb. defenseman has an outside chance to see some time in the NHL this year if he continues to excel.
The towering Schultz (6-foot-6, 212 lbs.) has impressed during training camp, but the 19-year-old is still a few years away from the NHL.
