2018 Fantasy Outlook
Multiple surgeries to address thoracic outlet syndrome (blood clots) in Turgeon's right arm largely curtailed his development in 2017-18. Still, he got his feet wet at hockey's highest level by earning a five-game stint, and 2014's third-round (No. 63 overall) draft pick is expected to make a full recovery ahead of training camp. While Turgeon is not a can't-miss fantasy prospect, the Red Wings traded up to get him which suggests that the club has a clear plan in place for the 22-year-old pivot following his output of 32 points through 69 games with AHL Grand Rapids. He has hockey bloodlines as the son of former NHLer Pierre Turgeon -- who averaged more than a point per game over 20 seasons -- so the waivers-exempt center should at least provide utility as an injury reinforcement option teetering between the parent club and the AHL's Griffins.
