This player will have no fantasy value in 2013-14 and can be ignored in all formats.
Byers is an enforcer who will likely employ his fists for the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL.
Physical winger will provide minor league depth for Columbus.
Byers is a physical winger who can score, assist and even rack up penalty minutes. In 74 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) last season, the gritty Canadian hit the century mark in PIMs to go along with 25 goals and and 26 assists. He could make for a decent fourth-line winger in the NHL, but concerning is the fact that the Rangers have only had him up in the major leagues for six career games despite being drafted in 2004.
The expectation for the upcoming season for Byers seems to be that he'll be bouncing back and forth between Hartford (AHL) and the Rangers as injuries and ineffectiveness dictate. He won't see extended time with the parent club, but even if he did, there's not going to be much production, anyway.
Another one of those players that will fight for a roster spot in training camp and if he doesn't get one, will be called up in mid-season.
Byers appeared in 78 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL), registering 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 points, along with 213 penalty minutes.
Byers was selected 48th overall by the Rangers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, and will remain in the junior leagues for the foreseeable future.
