Suter played six games for the Wild last year and scored three points, but he's mostly viewed as an AHL depth player at age 28. He'll need some injuries on the blue line to get extensive time with the Wild.
Sutter has put in 54 career NHL games over the course of six seasons. He's a role player on an increasingly crowded Minnesota Wild roster. The odds are that he's starting the season playing for the Iowa Wild of the AHL and spending most of the season there. The Wild acquired him knowing he has some NHL expereince and that he could be called upon for that, but also because they're looking to overhaul their AHL roster, which finished dead-last in the conference last season. Sutter helps add depth in Minnesota and will be a key contributor in Iowa. He shouldn't be turned to for fantasy production in your league.
The Charlotte Checkers’ team captain for 2011-2012, Sutter is the minor leaguer within the Carolina farm system most likely to make the big club’s opening roster. Though the former Flame is not likely to garner much usage at the NHL level in 2012-2013, he is a name to watch over the next few seasons.
Sutter is a gritty forward still trying to find substantial playing time in the NHL. He played just 18 games with the Flames between 2008-10, but Sutter could be in line for a boost after signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Hurricanes this past July. Still, he is someone to avoid in fantasy circles until he proves he can handle the rigors of an 82-game schedule.
Brett is the son of Calgary's head coach Brent Sutter. Despite that relationship he will still start the 2009-10 season with the Abbotsford Heat (AHL). The Flames love his spirited play and view him as a top notch prospect. He could certainly find his way onto the NHL roster at some point. He may not prove to be ownable this season but he will certainly make many fantasy owners happy within the next few years. Keeper league owners should already know his name.
Sutter is not much of an offensive player, but works his behind off and is a good grinder. He had 10 points with AHL Quad City last season and should spend next season there as well.
