Not in Montreal organization any longer. Played for a team in Switzerland last year.
The 33-year old Willsie played last season with Hamilton (AHL) and has played just five NHL games over the last three years.
Willsie is a journeyman who makes his next stop in Washington at the age of 32. He may see some time in the NHL if needed, but doubt he will make the Opening Day roster. He is a nice pick up for the organization if an injury occurs and a hole needs filled.
Willsie is no longer a scoring threat, as his one goal in 42 games last season will attest. He will be a third- or fourth-liner for the Avs at best, and merits no fantasy consideration. Signed a one-year deal with the Capitals in July 2010.
Willsie battled injuries last season and only appeared in 53 games. He has 40-point potential, but hasn't been able to approach those kind of numbers the past two seasons. He will be a fringe player for the Avs this season if he cracks the roster at all.
Willsie's numbers dropped by almost 50 percent last season to 11 goals and 10 assists. For this season will he revert to his best season when he was with the Capitals or stay the course like last season? He might be helped by the addition of several new free agents.
He will be looked upon for energy and points here and there for the Kings. He and Scott Thornton could make up 2/3rds of an energy line.
Willsie was a bright spot on an otherwise underachieving AHL Portland team in 2004-05, finishing second on the team in scoring (40 points) and first in goals (23) despite playing in only 53 games. With a solid training camp, Willsie should secure a third- or fourth-line spot on the opening day roster.
