Belak re-signed with the Predators for one more year in April. He served as the enforcer when necessary last season, playing in 39 games and totaling zero goals, two assists and 58 penalty minutes. Coaches have praised the leadership abilities Belak brings to the locker room, but that doesn't equate to fantasy wins. His ability to generate PIM's has declined compared to a few seasons ago, and he should be avoided in all but the deepest fantasy formats.
Belak only managed to play in 53 games due to injury last season, and in that time he only tallied two assists. In 495 career games he only has 31 points, and his sole fantasy value is in penalty minutes. You can find guys who put up a lot better numbers when they aren't in the box, leaving Belak more or less irrelevant.
Belak has about as little fantasy value as possible for a player on a one-way contract, posting just seven points in his last three years combined. His primary role in Florida is to fight when necessary.
Belak is a great quote but little more. Wait -- he has great tattoos, too, but that doesn't help in fantasy. Waddy is the Buds' so-called "muscle" but he's not a great fighter. If your league counts PIMs, he might net you a hundred; they just won't come with any points.
Bruising defenseman/winger had just three assists and 109 PIMs in 55 games last season, but should probably find himself in the press box more often as Toronto tries to increase its team speed.
