MacLeod has been selected by the Lightning with the 57th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
ANALYSIS
MacLeod has good size at 6-2 and 200 pounds, and is a physical defensive prospect. He makes a pretty good first pass out of his own zone, but beyond that he has no real offensive ability to speak of. MacLeod loves to throw the big hit, to the point that he sometimes takes himself out of the play while trying to nail a defender. He is committed to Boston University next season, but MacLeod at a Hockey East school seems like an awfully bad idea. He’d be likely to spend half the game in the penalty box considering how tight refs call the games up there. He would be much better off playing for Moncton of the QMJHL, the team that owns his major junior rights.
