Hudon got his first extended taste of NHL action in 2017-18 and gave both his supporters and detractors something to latch onto. To the good, he was fourth in shots (179) and was over 50 percent in Corsi For. To the bad, he had just 10 goals and 30 points in 72 games while finishing with a shooting percentage of 5.6, lower than Montreal's league-worst team mark of 7.7 percent. Digging a little deeper, there's more to support the good than the bad. The 24-year-old forward generated a high volume of shots in just 14:02 of ice time, mostly while skating with lesser skilled forwards on the third line. If the Habs are serious about rebuilding, giving Hudon more ice time in a top-six environment should be part of the plan. Skating with better forwards could lead to Hudon converting more of those shot attempts into goals.
