Aberg has signed a contract with Timra IK of the SHL, Murray Pam of FullHockeyPress.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Aberg evidently wasn't happy with his role in the Senators' organization, so he had his contract with Ottawa terminated Sunday before signing a contract with Timra IK in his native Sweden on Tuesday. The 28-year-old winger could remain overseas for the remainder of his career.

Aberg signed with the Maple Leafs on a one-year deal after the Wild refused to submit him an offer sheet. Aberg would occasionally sit as a healthy scratch last season, but he found his way into the lineup more often than not and ultimately posted 25 points in 59 games between the Ducks and Wild. However, only six of those points came as a member of Minnesota, a stat that the team ruled wasn't enough to justify keeping him around. The 25-year-old still possesses crafty hands and skill to produce for Toronto, but barring an unforeseen turnaround, he shouldn't have much fantasy value for 2019-20.
Aberg will start the 2018-19 campaign clinging to his tenure with Edmonton. The Swede has one year remaining on his contract, but he lacks a clear role outside of splitting time on the third line. After being acquired in a trade from Nashville at last year's deadline, the speedy winger collected two goals and six assists in 16 games. While not a must-own for fantasy rosters, the 24-year-old is still intriguing based on how the Oilers have sampled him on the first line and power play.
After appearing in just 15 games for the Preds last season, Aberg re-signed on a two-year, $1.3 million contract in July, which pretty much guarantees he will see an expanded role this season. The Swede has significant scoring upside as he enters his age-24 campaign – he led the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals with 52 points in 56 games last season – so don't be surprised if he winds up getting a look on one of the Preds’ top two lines at some point, as the club is thin on the wings behind top-line studs Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson. As such, Aberg represents a good sleeper candidate in deeper fantasy formats; a steady top-six role could quite conceivably lead to him cracking 40 points.
Last season -- his first in the AHL since coming over from Sweden -- Aberg ranked fifth in team scoring for Milwaukee, recording 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists) in 69 games. Talent-wise, Aberg has good speed and a sound two-way game. He passes the puck well and possesses a hard accurate shot, although at 5-foot-11 and 187 pounds, he will likely need to add size in order to compete at the NHL level. Expect Aberg to continue his development at AHL Milwaukee this upcoming season.
