Kasparaitis has been essentially kicked off the Rangers island, but they're on the hook for his salary so he is still lingering about at some capacity. There hasn't been any word on a buyout, but we're certain it's going to happen sooner than later -- both parties don't want this situation to spill into the regular season.
Kasparaitis goes into the season as a potential question mark; he underwent a few surgerical procedures in the past year, one to repair a sports hernia and the other to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. If healthy, theres no question that Kaspar can be a force on the ice; he's solid defensively and will constantly look to make the big hits.
Surviving the post lockout buy-out period (he had been a candiate for a buy-out under the new CBA), Kaspar will once again wreck havoc on the blueline for the Rangers -- at least for one more season that is. It's hard to see Darius being a long term solution on the blueline with all the young defenseman they have roaming in their system, so expect the Rangers to try to deal him before the trade deadline or after this upcoming season. Till then, Darius will continue to punish skaters with his wicked hits and fearsome forechecks, but warned however, Kaspar is prone to giving up his position at times and surrender a big play in key situations.
