Dumont had quite the season in 2016-17. The Sens grabbed him off waivers from the Lightning in late November. The Bolts then did the same in late February. Hopefully, he gets travel points for the back-and-forth. Dumont's greatest assets are his ability to win faceoffs and kill penalties. But he exploded offensively in the AHL after returning to Tampa. Dumont had 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) in just 18 AHL games last season. Yes, it's pretty much lightning in a bottle (no pun intended). Turning 28 years old at the start of the season, Dumont might vie for a fourth-line gig at the top level, though he's more likely to provide valuable leadership in the minors.
Dumont has never played a full season in the big league, and he's on a two-way contract this season meaning that may not change anytime soon. Still, he shows potential in the bottom-six of a rotation, scoring four points, dishing out 83 hits and firing 34 shots on goal in 39 games last season. Regardless, what league he begins with this season is dependent on his preseason performance.
.
For the second straight season, Dumont spent most of his time with Hamilton of the AHL, but also had a brief stint with the Canadiens. The 22-year-old led the Bulldogs with 16 goals in 55 games and was one of the more consistent players on a team that finished last in the 30-team AHL. He brings a lot of energy to the ice and is not afraid to be physical despite being on the smaller side. He's expected to open the season at Hamilton and will be one of the first called up should injuries hit the forward/center spots in Montreal.
