When Montreal signed Froese prior to the 2017-18 season, he was tabbed for a veteran role with AHL Laval. Sure enough, he wore the “C” for the Rocket and averaged nearly a point per game before getting a November call-up to Montreal where he stayed for the rest of the season. Froese scored a career-high 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in 48 games, but it would be near-sighted to think he's found a scoring touch. The Habs were desperate for centers and weren't all that deep offensively so Froese was able to take advantage and “appear” to be a solid addition. Montreal's in a much different place entering this season, so toting a career depth forward instead of one of its most highly touted prospects would be a mistake. Expect Froese to see most of his minutes at AHL Laval if he clears waivers.
