The Flames acquired Taormina in a late preseason trade with the Canadiens. An undisclosed injury severely limited him in training camp, and he'll almost assuredly be assigned to AHL Stockton once he's fit to play. He hasn't appeared in an NHL game since 2015-16.
Taormina will get a long look at training camp, but his contract may end up being his undoing -- it's a two-way deal that saves the Bolts money and headaches. If he makes the club, he could work the second power-play unit. But given the tough competition, we're guessing he starts the season in the AHL.
Taormina is a small, power-play specialist on a two-way deal. He'll be in the hunt for a possible roster spot, but only if Marc-Andre Bergeron falters or Mark Barberio fails to impress.
Taormina had his rookie season shortened by a broken ankle just 17 games into the campaign. He's a young player with offensive upside, something the Devils desperately need on the blue line. He'll get as good of a shot as any to battle for playing time, as there are a plethora of defensemen jockeying for several spots. Remember Taormina's name in deep leagues when filling in your roster, but he'll have to earn his playing time.
Taormina was a breakthrough player in training camp, enough to earn him a spot on the opening day roster. He's a puck mover that played under new coach John MacLean at Lowell (AHL) and posted a 50 point season in 2009-10, so look for him to see some power play time. Take a flier on him in deeper leagues but keep tabs to see what his role is in the early going.
