Alt will attend the Sharks' training camp on a professional tryout contract, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
ANALYSIS
Alt served as a depth option for the Kings last season, drawing into two games. The 29-year-old defenseman will likely be hoping for a two-way contract from the Sharks, but he's unlikely to make the big club straight out of training camp.

Despite dressing just seven times for the Avalanche last season, Alt secured a two-year, two-way contract extension with the team this offseason. He performed serviceably in his brief stint with the club, blocking 11 shots and and collecting six hits and six shots on goal over seven contests. The blueliner should remain part of the equation as a depth option, but it's unlikely he will find a consistent role among the defensive pairings this season.
The second round pick from 2010 is entering his second full season in Adirondack after graduating from the University of Minnesota in 2013. His performance in the AHL last year was disappointing, registering four goals and 22 assists and a minus-16 rating. He will be looking to prove that he is able to elevate his game, but it appears he is still a long shot from seeing any ice time in a Flyers' uniform. A solid 2014-2015 season will go a long way to increasing those chances.
Alt played in six games for the Adirondack Phantoms last year, where he amassed one goal, one assist, and two penalty minutes. The young, defensive prospect needs to refine his ability to contribute offensively, so it's unlikely the former second-round pick will be seeing much NHL ice time this year.
Alt was selected by the Hurricanes in the second round (No. 53 overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Listed at 6-foot-3, 194 pounds, Alt is bulky for his age given that he will only be 20 years old shortly after the season starts in October. Last year, he found his way into 35 games with the University of Minnesota, notching two goals, eight assists and 22 PIMs. The Hurricanes obviously think highly of him based on the team’s decision to make him an early draft pick, but the young rearguard will likely need a few years to work his way up the hockey ranks.
Alt was drafted by the Hurricanes with 53rd pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. At 6-foot-3, 194 pounds, he already has the size needed to defend in the NHL. Unlike many skaters his size, he is graceful on his skates. You can expect to see Alt skating for the Minnesota Gophers in 2010-11.
