Coming off a season in which he recorded 19 points in 58 games with AHL Providence, Knight – a 2010 second-rounder – is still looking to get his pro career on track. When he is on, Knight can be energetic and hard-driving forward and added production at the minor league level this season could set the stage for Knight to earn call-up consideration by the Bruins.
Knight’s 2012-13 season was slowed by injuries, but the Bruins still have hopes that the energetic and hard-driving forward can be among the next crop of forwards to graduate permanently to the NHL level. A superb training camp could enable him to push for a roster spot, but a more likely scenario will see him establish himself at the AHL level, where he could emerge as a candidate for an in-season promotion.
Keeper alert. Knight seems likely to start the season with AHL Providence, but he's a candidate for an in-season promotion and the B's have high hopes for the energetic and hard driving forward, who scored 26 goals and 52 points in 52 games for the OHL's London Knights this past season.
Knight, selected 32d overall in the 2010 NHL draft, racked up 70 points in 68 games for OHL London this past season. He's viewed as a solid competitor with some offensive skills and he could make a run at a roster spot with the big club this fall.
Taken in June with a second-round draft choice courtesy of the Phil Kessel trade, Knight is a smallish center with some upside on offense. He's one of a slew of young forwards who have a chance to make an impact for the B's down the road, though probably not this season.
