Biega spent the majority of last season at AHL Charlotte, where he recorded just 14 points in 69 games. In March, he was recalled by the Hurricanes and played in 10 straight games, notching a pair of helpers. A solid two-way defenseman, Biega relies on sound positioning and defensive smarts to make himself effective. He moves the puck quickly and efficiently most of the time, but at 6-foot-0 and 205 pounds, is slightly undersized. In terms of his development, Biega is now being overshadowed by some of the higher-profile blue line prospects in the Canes’ system, such as Michal Jordan, Trevor Carrick, and Haydn Fleury. Expect Biega to once again spend the majority of the upcoming season in the AHL.
