Johnson signed with the Vaxjo Lakers of the Swedish Hockey League on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Johnson spent most of the past season at AHL Providence, where he compiled 18 goals and 24 assists over 51 games. The 28-year-old has struggled to find a permanent place in the NHL despite 113 career games at the level, so he opted for the stability of Sweden rather than another year slumming it in the minors.

Johnson, who recorded six points in 17 games with the Coyotes this past season, will give the Bruins’ organization some added right-wing depth to call upon this coming season, but initially he'll have to battle for a roster spot with the big club in training camp.
Johnson signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Coyotes in July 2012 after a career-high year in goals (eight), points (26) and sin bin minutes (45) with the Wild. He's likely to shuffle between Portland and Phoenix when the situation calls for it, but a strong training camp could see him stick at the NHL level given his experience.
Johnson played well for the Baby Pens in 2010-11, notching 20 goals and adding 19 assists in 48 contests. He chipped in three points (1 G, 2 A) in four games with Pittsburgh, but suffered a concussion that forced him out in the second half of the season. Preventing him from playing in the postseason was the fact that he served his injury time with Pittsburgh. Johnson plays a desirable position (right wing) within the organization. The team signed Steve Sullivan and Jason Williams to help fill that void, but they are both injury prone. The 25-year-old Johnson doesn't hold a high ceiling, but he figures to see action at CONSOL Energy Center at some point in 2011-12.
The Penguins used Johnson briefly in 2009-10, putting him alongside Evgeni Malkin for a couple games. Johnson scored one goal and assisted on another in six NHL games, and could earn a mid-season recall. He has good size at 6-foot-2 and 197 pounds, but he hasn't given an indication of breaking out anytime soon.
