Lawson played 23 games last season for AHL Binghamton and recorded an impressive .938 save percentage and a 2.19 GAA. He's likely the next goalie in line to get the call up to Ottawa if Craig Anderson or Robin Lehner get hurt.
Lawson was signed by the Canadiens in the offseason, but with a two-way contract and Montreal inking Peter Budaj, Lawson appears headed to AHL Hamilton to be the Bulldogs' No. 1 goalie. He'll get his opportunities in training camp and preseason, but the backup to Carey Price is Budaj's job.
Last season the Islanders signed Dwayne Roloson and Martin Biron as insurance in case Rick DiPietro couldn't play. They still have Roloson, but with DiPietro supposedly ready to play the Isles didn't sign a third goaltender, well, Lawson is next in line should something happen to Roloson or DiPietro.
Lawson did well in rookie campaign in the AHL, posting a 19-9-2 record with a 2.16 GAA for Bridgeport. He won't touch the NHL this year due to the depth at the position the Islanders now have, and the team took two netminders in the June Entry Draft, so his future chances don't appear to bright either.
