Petersson recorded two goals and three assists in 17 games with the Sens in 2013. He will need to prove he deserves a shot at the NHL before he warrants picking up in a fantasy league.
Petersson's 2010-11 season was basically a write-off as a serious back injury forced him to end his SEL season with HV71 after only 31 games. He tried playing through the pain early in the season, but simply wasn't that effective and had to call it quits. Ottawa's management brought him over to North America to examine his back injury and treat it accordingly. With the injury now apparently behind him, the highly-skilled, but diminutive winger enters the 2011-12 season as a prospect to follow down on the farm. He'll need at least a year or two to get used to the North American game, but if he does adjust well, Petersson has the skills to play a top-six role for Ottawa in the future.
Petersson is one of Ottawa's best offensive prospects, if not the best. He has elite offensive gifts and a fantastic shot. Petersson will spend the 2010-11 season in Sweden playing for HV71 of the Elite League. Look for him to make the jump to North America in 2011-12. He still needs to work on his defensive game and gain a little more strength, but his offensive skills cannot be ignored. Proof of this is the fact that Petersson tied with Canada's Jordan Eberle as the leading goalscorer in the 2010 U-20 Men's World Hockey Championship.
