Past Fantasy Outlooks
Rypien appeared in a career-high 69 games last season, finishing with eight points (4 G, 4A) and 126 penalty minutes. The gritty center does most of his work with his fists, so only target him in deep leagues that heavily reward trips to the Sin Bin.
Rypien was limited to 12 games during the 2008-09 season due to injuries and personal reasons. He's healthy entering this season and will factor into the mix on the fourth line, but with only seven points in 41 career appearances, Rypien holds little fantasy value.
Rypien received a look with the parent club last season, but he failed to capitalize. The Canucks brought in players to replenish their offense, so it is unlikely that Rypien will receive anything more than a few short stints in the NHL this season.
Rypien has the ability to be a solid, if unspectacular NHL player when he is given the chance. The chance will not be given to him this season, at least, not full-time. He has little fantasy value.
