ANALYSIS
The 34-year-old blueliner never had much of a chance at cracking the Panthers' opening night roster. Alex Petrovic, Colby Robak and MacKenzie Weegar remain in a battle for the team's seventh defenseman job.

Zanon, who signed a two-year, $4.5 million deal with the Avs in July, is a third-pairing defender who doesn't really deliver in any fantasy category, even the deep ones. He scored a career-high 13 points three seasons ago in Minnesota, but hasn’t done much since. He will be given a chance to earn a regular spot on the Avs’ blue line next season, but don’t expect a surge in his totals.
Zanon is a stay-at-home type of defender, but a good one at that. In 2010-11, the 31-year-old delivered 169 hits and finished second in the entire NHL with 212 blocks. Another positive is that Zanon is very durable and rarely misses games. Unfortunately most of those qualities don't add up to much in the world of fantasy hockey.
The veteran defenseman had a career year with Minnesota last season, recording 15 points (2 G, 13 A) in 81 games. The game he missed last season against Columbus snapped his streak of 172 consecutive games played. He's a tough defender, who does the little things to help his team win. Zanon ranked fourth in the league last season with 196 blocked shots. The physical veteran also recorded 183 hits. As impressive as those stats are, he doesn't put up points, so he won't do much for your fantasy team.
Zanon will make $2 million this season to play stay at home defense, but not much else. He doesn't score often or spend much time in the penalty box. He offers next to nothing in most leagues. He has proven durable the last few years, including skating in all 82 contests last season.
Zanon is the Predators resident shot blocking specialist. He ranked among the NHL leaders with 176 blocks last season and he ranked second on the team with 160 hits. Zanon scratched for just five points in 78 games last season, so his fantasy hockey worth is negligible.
Zanon is the Predators resident shot blocking specialist. He ranked among the NHL leaders with 189 blocks last season and he ranked third on the team with 91 hits. Zanon scratched for just eight points in 66 games last season, so his fantasy hockey worth is negligible.
Zanon has played the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Admirals and only had a brief, four-game stint with the Predators last season. Zanon will likely play another full season with Milwaukee in 2006-07 and only possibly be called upon for injury relief by the Predators.
