Kennedy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old Kennedy totaled eight points over 37 games with the Coyotes last season. He'll likely just be organizational depth for the Capitals, seeing most of his ice time at AHL Hershey.

Rejoining the Capitals organization after spending the past few seasons bouncing around other NHL teams and their minor league affiliates, Kennedy will likely serve as a depth player in 2014-2015. Tallying eight points in 37 games for Phoenix last season, Kennedy should be a useful depth player for the Capitals, but appears destined to spend the balance of the season with Hershey, and possesses little value from a fantasy perspective.
Kennedy joins the Coyotes as the team looks to boost its winger depth. The former Shark contributed two goals in 13 games for San Jose last year, but he'll have a much better opportunity for ice time in the desert as the Coyotes search for playmakers to emerge on their second and third lines. In the lone season Kennedy played more than 30 games, he notched 26 points in 78 contests. It's remote, but he could surprise.
The Buffalo native will be playing elsewhere in 2010-11 after an offseason contract dispute resulted in the Sabres releasing the fiery winger. His numbers (10 G, 16 A) are adequate for a third- or fourth-line left wing, but one gets the feeling that Kennedy is what he is as a player. Depending on where he latches on, 30 to 35 points would be a good year for the former Michigan State Spartan.
Last season Kennedy emerged as one of the Sabres top prospects, leading all AHL rookies in scoring with 67 points in 73 games. With three spaces open at forward in the Sabres' lineup, Kennedy should see considerably more playing time in the NHL this season if not a job on their opening day roster.
Kennedy is a polished offensive player that comes to the Sabres from Michigan State University. He has a slim chance to win a season-opening roster spot. More likely, he will wait in the AHL until an opportunity arises.
Junior at Michigan State University.
